Reinventing female beauty

My dad was a photographer. He studied English, philosophy and film. You can say he was the artsy kind. No surprise he married my mother, an art student who had a keen eye for photography and composition. Together, these two black sheep taught me how to see the world through multiple lenses. Visual beauty was always valued. I grew up behind cameras, and editing equipment, and piles and piles of video cassettes (I am totally giving my age away!). Although one could argue that I grew up in the perfect environment to become an artist, I desired to be different from my parents. I fell in love with anthropology and sociology. Numbers, statistics, ethnographies became my passion, yet one thing always fell in my lap in form of an invitation: Identity. No matter what social science I studied identity was there and lured me to explore it more. After college, and after proving myself and my family that I could be different from my parents, photography became my passion. And of course, you guess right... I began to explore identity through photography. Women's standards of beauty, cultural identity, and social identity in this border region that is San Diego and Tijuana.
I have been blessed to work with amazing women, and together we have challenged society's expectations of beauty and have found our own definition of beauty. Through my photography I have been able to capture women's inner beauty.
The vast and borderless landscape that is the body. The fluidity of movement and identity. The resilient strength that resided inside every person I have photograph.
Today I am inviting you to work with me. Are you interested in a photo shoot? Let me know... I would love to work with you and create a concept together. (sessions are completely free)
